Interview Tips

Don't expect your resume alone to win the job for you; you will need to communicate clearly why you think you are the right candidate. These simple tips may be of help:

Do's

  • Research about the company and the job profile before your interview.
  • Arrive 10 minutes early. This is better than being a minute late.
  • Be sure to wear a suit and tie
  • Be sure to shake hands firmly and smile
  • Maintain eye contact with the interviewer
  • Listen carefully to questions and if you don't understand a question, politely ask for clarification.
  • Let the interviewer finish his question before you begin your answer
  • You are not expected to know everything. If you do not know the answer, say no. Do not mislead the interviewer by talking in circles
  • Be honest about your background and experience. You will be reference checked
  • At the end of the interview, be sure to ask a few questions of your own
  • Thank the interviewer for his / her time.

Dont's:

  • Indulge in negative talks about your previous employer.
  • Be too informal.
  • Speak for too long - more than two minutes is normally too much.
  • Do not look at your watch or appear anxious to end the interview.
  • Chew gum or smell like smoke.
  • Ask about the salary unless the interviewer brings it up.
  • Allow your cell phone to ring during the interview.
